It’s a time of Big Internal Changes
Mercury retrograde is a time to RE-assess, re-view and re-form how we communicate. You can re-connect and change old stories you might have that you did not realize were holding you back. It’s a great time to change how you communicate and connect with your self! I’ve shared some great ways to help this shift below (and more in the extended Astro Forecast).
We get to RE-new how we connect with our self for the next three weeks. It’s almost another little New Year RE-set for health and well being!
Here’s why:
Mercury began retrograding today in Aquarius ~ which is a sign of communication, revolution and of breath. (In the Vedic system, Mercury is in Aquarius!)
Notice what patterns around communication you bump into over the next few weeks – that is your personal theme – it’s where you can shift from an old way of doing things. Just keep committing what you want to shift and it will happen. Be gentle with yourself and these changes will happen easier.
It is a time to review old patterns of how you connect with yourself and what feels good for body and mind. This includes noticing when you feel disconnected or when you might judge yourself so you can gently return to self. It’s a powerful time to listen to yourself and learn how to regulate or check-in with yourself. Listening and checking in with yourself will help you be creative in how you respond and re-center yourself. You can improve in work and personal relationships when you add listening in new ways. There’s a lot of room for significant improvement during this Mercury retrograde thank goodness!
Vedic Astrology interprets Mercury retrogrades differently. Mercury is the planet of communication, the nervous system and the lungs in Ayurveda. This retrograde helps you change your communication style and connect with new stories about your past. It’s time to change how you connect with yourself and how you express yourself.
It’s Time for New Routines
Since this Mercury retrograde is so strongly tied to helping our nervous systems (it’s one of our communication highways in the body) through our breath, any breath practice first thing in the morning is going to help you immensely. It will help you connect with your self – in the moment. And this will ripple into your life.
You can also use a breath practice at other times of the day for your re-set; at the end of the work day or before bed.
Breath Practice examples:
- Going for a walk in the woods or a place filled with green plants.
- Adding a small sprint to your walk will help expand those beautiful lungs of yours and your heart-rate variability which is a true marker of heart health.
- Swimming laps is one of the best ways to regulate the breath and help your nervous system find a calm in the middle of activity. Mercury is also associated with the lungs in Vedic Astrology or Jyotisha.
Powerful Practice in the Extended Astro Forecast
I shared with all of the Conscious Calendars Annual subscribers a sweet, simple and powerful re-set practice. I spent time at the end of the Mercury Retrograde video (one of four videos for February) in the extended Astro Forecast and included the steps in the Mercury PDF (one of four PDFs). Each Forecast segment shares astro insights, themes and often a health tip associated with each event – Full moon, New moon, Mercury retrograde and February Overview.
It’s time to do things differently.
It’s a perfect time to shift your morning routine or your work-out or health routine.
Look for one thing to change in your routine. Change is good during Mercury retrogrades.
Especially changes that help you get some quiet time or that help you connect with others who are making similar changes. Connect with others in new ways! Change things up.
It is almost like we are getting a new little re-set early in the year. Can you feel the desire to really go back and do something right or to re-check with an old friend or relationship?
There are so many ways you can find re-newal. Listen in to your heart, you know what you want to shift. Start with easy, small things in your routine, and see what else you are inspired to change!
What in your daily routine could you shift that will help you connect with your breath and connect with yourself? This will give you rewards in both your health and vitality and in your communication with others. When you are connected with yourself, you can communicate clearly, honestly and genuinely. And all of us win when we communicate honestly ~ especially heart to heart.
Even at work, you can find ways that your daily routine will help you speak with co-workers differently because you might not be as stressed because you added a 5 minute meditation, or a one minute run, or a walk around the block or time in a green, luscious park near your home or work.
Mercury Retrograde connects with this Venus nicely
This weaves perfectly together with Mercury retrograde in February and March with a theme of communicating with yourself in new ways.
It’s time to re-connect with yourself in EASY daily routines that connect you with your breath and an ability to shift and re-set if you need to. When you listen to yourself ~ you can creatively respond to what you need in the moment.

Venus brings HUGE support to many for long periods of time in 2020. It’s what I am calling the Golden Zone this year!
Not every year has a Golden Zone, but 2020 has some incredible windows which will catapult certain ascendants (and those with certain karmic cycles) to fame, creating love centered communities, wealth for some, families for others, longer travel for others (where you might live in a local home for a period of time instead of a hotel or hostel), and deep healing and release for others.
